Our Story

Jay-Anne Dingwall, an amazingly positive force of nature, had the original idea in early 2023 to raise money for mental health by a one off event using singing as the vehicle to promote it. 

Having been introduced to Liz Ashton, a professional singer and vocal coach, the Shower to Stage Choir was launched with the aim of teaching non-singers (originally all women) from the community to sing in perfect three-part harmony within a short period of time.  “If they can talk, I can teach them to sing in tune” she said!  Liz says she never doubted them. Having heard them in the first week, we’re not sure we believe her! 

The new choir then had the daunting prospect of performing on a big stage in the fabulous Alverton Hotel in Truro, in front of an audience of 120 ticket buying members of the public.  

The resulting event in October 2023 (just 12 sessions later) had an impact neither woman could have imagined and as a result in early 2024, a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation, One Voice (Cornwall), was born.
